Which file should I download?
Open Assets on the release page and select the program for your operating system.
| Platform | Program | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | spartanport-windows.zip |
Windows installation |
| Linux and Steam Deck | spartanport-x86_64.AppImage |
Linux & Steam Deck |
The Linux asset is in the same release even though the tag starts with windows-. Keep the program and its matching .sha256 checksum file from the same release together.
Should I choose a regular release, a test build or source code?
Use the current regular release for a first installation. Pre-release identifies a test build intended for a particular issue or platform experiment. macOS has a separate Apple Silicon test release.
Source code (zip) and Source code (tar.gz) contain source files for building the project. Choose the Windows ZIP or Linux AppImage above to run the packaged launcher. The small .sha256 file contains the expected checksum, a fingerprint of the matching program.
How do I check the Windows ZIP in PowerShell?
-
Save the ZIP and matching
.sha256file from the current release. -
Open Windows PowerShell in the folder containing the ZIP.
-
Run:
Get-FileHash -LiteralPath '.\spartanport-windows.zip' -Algorithm SHA256 -
Read the Hash value. Open
spartanport-windows.zip.sha256in a text editor and compare all 64 hexadecimal characters. Letter case can differ. -
If every character matches, extract the ZIP and continue to Windows installation.
For a file error, check the folder and actual filename, including a suffix your browser may have added to a second download. Use that exact local filename in the command. For a different hash, follow Checksum mismatch.
How do I check the Linux AppImage?
Open a terminal in the download folder and run:
sha256sum spartanport-x86_64.AppImage
Compare the complete 64-character value with spartanport-x86_64.AppImage.sha256 from that release. If both files are in the same folder with their original names, you can check automatically:
sha256sum --check spartanport-x86_64.AppImage.sha256
A successful check prints the AppImage filename followed by OK. FAILED means the contents differ; a missing-file error means the named program could not be read. Correct the filename or folder before retrying. After a match, continue to Linux installation.
What if the checksum differs?
Don't run a package with a mismatched checksum. Check that the program and checksum belong to the same release and operating system. Download that pair again from the current release and repeat the check.
If they still differ, keep the filenames, release version, expected checksum and calculated checksum for a project report. Include any download error. Use a newly matching pair before installation.
Why does an older guide use different program names?
gow3_pc became SpartanPort in 2.6.0. Use the package names above for the current release. On Windows, SpartanPort.exe opens the launcher and Play SpartanPort.exe starts with saved settings; compatibility launchers keep older Windows shortcuts working.
For an existing installation, follow Update before replacing files. For a first installation, check Requirements and Game version.
