Which mods work, and do I need old ultrawide patches?
Use a file mod made for PS4 Remastered, its game region and the port's loader. Compatible mods replace textures, models, sounds, text or videos through game-relative paths. Mods can also carry a patches/ directory for code patches.
For the current port, use the built-in resolution and ultrawide choices and controller or keyboard prompts. Those features can be selected directly in the launcher.
For an unpacked resource, a simple layout is:
mods/
YourMod/
EXEC/
(the mod's replacement files)
mod.json
mod.json is optional metadata. A language directory or supported dvdroot_ps4/EXEC/ or app0/EXEC/ layout can also be used. A single enclosing wrapper folder is accepted. Extract 7z or RAR archives before placing their folders here; a supported ZIP can stay zipped.
Where do I put a ZIP or unpacked mod?
Open Mods and use Open folder. Folders → Mods folder selects a custom location.
The default is mods/ in the data directory: beside SpartanPort.exe on Windows, or ~/.local/share/spartanport/mods for the Linux AppImage. If your Linux data root is customized through XDG_DATA_HOME or SPARTAN_DATA_DIR, follow the location opened by the launcher.
How do I enable a mod and check it loads?
- Copy the existing mod folder or
.zipinto that directory. A ZIP can stay zipped; the launcher unpacks it automatically. An existing manually created folder of the same name is kept. - Return to Mods and click Refresh.
- Turn on Load mods.
- Tick the mod in Load order. The active counter shows how many mods are enabled.
- Click Save.
- Start the game again. Changes apply on the next start, through a temporary view layered over the game directory.
Check the intended scene or menu after the restart. For a missing entry or unchanged result, follow the layout and log checks.
The loader refuses replacements for eboot.bin, sce_module and sce_sys. Use file mods containing replacement textures, models, sounds or text.
Which mod wins when two change the same file?
Click a mod's name to open its details. If enabled mods change the same file, Conflicts shows a warning; Details lists the file and the competing mods in order.
Use the up and down arrows to set priority. The lower mod supplies the whole file. Disable one conflicting mod if you need the other's version intact.
For built-in ultrawide resolutions, use Settings.
How do I save a preset or turn mods off?
Under Presets, type a name and click Save to store the load order and disabled entries. Select a preset and click Load to apply it, or Delete to remove the preset. A loaded preset skips missing mods and places new mods at the bottom, enabled. Save the resulting launcher changes before starting again.
To isolate a mod problem, turn Load mods off, save and restart. It disables both file mods and their mod patches. Your original game directory stays intact. For a continuing black screen or crash, use Troubleshooting.
Why is a mod missing from the list or changing nothing?
- Click Refresh after copying files, then check Load mods and the mod's checkbox.
- Check its inner paths against the selected game's paths and region. Remove unintended extra nesting beyond the supported wrapper.
- For a missing entry, look for
not a mod (no EXEC, language folder, dvdroot_ps4 or patches)in the log. - For
0 game files replaced, check that the resource's game-relative paths match files in this game. A visible mod entry can still replace zero matching files. - If another mod removes its effect, open Conflicts → Details and check which lower entry supplies that whole file.
- Enable one mod at a time, save and restart to compare the intended scene.
If the game fails only with that mod enabled, keep its version, region, file paths and log for its maintainer. If it also fails with Load mods off, use Troubleshooting. Leave a generated mod-game-* view alone after a crash; it points into the game directory.
How do file mods, XML patches and game updates differ?
A file mod overlays replacement game data. Its mod patches change matching code in memory when the mod is enabled. Built-in patches locate their code by signatures and are selected through the port's own settings.
For a compatible standalone XML, open Mods → Folders → Patches folder and place it there. Third-party patches lists entries as <file>.xml/<patch name>; select the required entry, save and start again. These patches use fixed addresses and apply only to the supported 01.02 reference executable. Compare the first Patches: log line's SHA-256 with the reference-build requirements if one is skipped. They run after built-in patches, so a conflicting third-party write wins.
The game's 01.02 update belongs in the Game folder or Update folder. A port program update uses Update.
